Trainings on entrepreneurship via waste management held in Kiphire & Noklak

Kohima, February 12 (MExN): The Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA), in collaboration with the Science & Technology Intervention in North-East Region (STINER-TFC), recently completed the “Entrepreneurship through Waste Management” training programme in Kiphire and Noklak districts.

The trainings were aimed at promoting agri-entrepreneurship by providing skills training to the farmers through the demonstrations presented by STINER-TFC professionals on banana fibre extraction and technical sessions on vermicomposting, informed a press release. 

Additionally, the STINER team provided banana extraction machines to beneficiaries, enhancing local initiatives and fostering sustainable practices.

Kiphire: In Amahator village under Kiphire District on February 10, Bikram Ghimere, Project Assistant at STINER-TFC highlighted STINER’s activities under Ministry of Development of North-East Region..

He emphasised the abandoned yet resourceful nature of the region, pointing out that promoting entrepreneurship, specifically through banana fibre extraction and vermicomposting, could significantly contribute to generating income and livelihood.

Beneficiaries from Amahator village received practical training and witnessed the creation of products like handbags and saucers crafted from banana fibres.

Ghimere also delved into an in-depth technical training session on the vermin-composting process, elucidating the values and benefits associated with the final product.

Hubilu Tunyi, CEO of the Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO) in Amahator Block in the concluding session expressed appreciation to the STINER team for their efforts in assisting farmers within the region and well as participants for proactive responses during the training.

She highlighted the significance of their collaborative efforts in fostering sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the economic landscape of the Amahator Block.

Noklak: A hands-on training was conducted for three FPOs in Noklak District implemented by tEA in collaboration with STINER-TFC was held at  Jungyam Fishery Farm, Noklak on February 8.

Addressing the gathering, Ghimre emphasised on the implementation of Science and Technology in agriculture and how it can improve the sustainability and production of the farmers and also generate an income source.

Chubasashi, Mechanic STINER-TFC, demonstrated to the gathering about the user manual of the Banana fibre extraction machine. 

He also gave visuals of the finished products and told about its scope and market demand of the products. The attendees then took part in banana fiber extraction trials under the supervision of the experts.

He also explained about the Cardamom dryer, how it can be used for varied purposes in drying chillies, meat, etc. 

The unique feature of the dryer is that the products are smokeless, thus eliminating the threat of many smoke related health issues, he said. 

Insights on Vermi-composing and its ever growing market demand and possible income generation were explained by Ghimre.

Both the sessions were followed by signing of documentations by potential farmers and handing over of the machines by the STINER-TFC team –  one vermi pin and one banana fibre extraction machine in Kiphire and one vermi pin, one banana fibre extraction machine and one cardamom dryer in Noklak.
