GMS D Khel Kohima village celebrates 75th anniversary

The Government Middle School, D Khel Kohima village celebrated its 75th Anniversary at D Khel Indoor Stadium, Kohima village on November 26.
Gracing the occasion as the guest of honour, Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, Advisor Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, complimented the school for attaining 75 glorious years.“We want to see toppers coming out from government schools,” he said and strongly felt that the students from government schools can perform much better.
Stating that government job is not the only job that one can do, he said, “There are many things you can do.”
Follow your dreams and do what you want, he told the students and at the same time he said that parents should not force their children to follow their (parent) dreams. “You can always suggest or discuss with them but allow them to pursue their own dream,” he told the parents.
‘Support GMS D Khel to become a world class one’
Sharing greetings, Pele Khezhie, chairman D Khel Council saluted the founding members of GMS D Khel and all those who nurtured it and worked diligently over the years to developed GMS D Khel into an essential element of the education system and also gave it a culture of excellence.
During the last 75 years, D Khel GMS has rendered invaluable service to the society by providing value-based education to several generations of students. The school has played an exceptional role in the process of nation building by producing best minds and soul, Khezhie said.
Education is not a process to prepare students for the next higher class, but it is a process to prepare them for life, he said. He urged teachers and parents to lay emphasis on character formation of the students and at the same time urged the teachers and parents to communicate with children, understand them, and address their concerns.
Stating that alumni are the biggest strength of every school, Khezhie wanted the alumni of this school to extend all possible support to the school to make the school a world class one.
‘GMS D Khel- a backbone of edu, socio- economic growth’
Village Education Committee chairman, Mhaliezolie Kire said “Today, when we look back to the past 75 years Government LP School D Khel (which was upgraded to Government Middle School) is one of the oldest school in Kohima Village.”
‘We have witness GMS D Khel acted as catalyst and backbone of education and socio- economic growth in our society,’ he said. He maintained that GMS D Khel is one of the best Government schools in terms of infrastructure and academic performance. Kire acknowledged the dedication and commitment of the teachers and the students. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to Dapfhütsumia Council, Dapfhütsumia Students Union and stakeholders as a whole for constant support and guidance for the growth of the school.
Brief history of GMS D Khel was highlighted by GMS head teacher Kikrulhoulie Khezhie. Special number was presented by Neisedelie Sachü, president DYO. Earlier, Dr Ruokuovilie Sachii, pastor Khedi Baptist Church invoked God’s blessing. The programme was chaired by Keduolhoukhoü Kire while vote of thanks was proposed by Methasieü Pienyü.
