Dimapur, January 12 (MExN): Meisen Jamir of Chuchuyimlang and a resident of Kohima won the conferred the Outstanding Graduation Project award- the Shanta Keshavan and N Keshavan Endowment Award during the 43rd Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad held on January 4.
She was awarded for her project titled, “Ladakh Diaries” which demonstrated an outstanding degree of ‘ideation, innovation and execution,’ informed a press release.
As per the jury, Jamir’s project identified and utilised the “local symbolism of Ladakh innovatively in a contemporary living space while retaining the symbols’ original identity and translating their relevance through her textile skills,” it said.
“The design elements derived from local flora and fauna are beautifully translated using textile design methods resulting in visually striking outcomes. Her unique approach leads seamlessly to the final range of products,” the jury noted.
According to an NID update, each calendar year three Shanta Keshavan and N Keshavan Endowment Award prizes are given to the best undergraduate student designers in the regular programmes – one each to Communication Design, Industrial Design and Textile & Apparel Design.
Instituted in 2017, the prizes are given in recognition for the best degree project the students undertake during their final semester under their regular curriculum and announced during the annual convocation ceremony. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
At the 43rd Convocation, Chief Guest, Pramod Varma, former Chief Architect of Aadhaar and UPI, presented the awards to the students.
Meanwhile, as per an update by the NID Ahmedabad on its official social media account, a total of 477 students from Bachelor of Design (B Des), Master of Design (M.Des) and PhD Programmes graduated from 20 varied disciplines.
The theme of the convocation was “’Collective Transformation’” that is how we Converge, Connect, Experiment, Transform, Diverge & Transcend.’
The NIDs are a group of autonomous public design universities in India, with the primary institute, founded in 1961, in Ahmedabad, and internationally acclaimed as one of the finest educational and research institutions for Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design.
