Denizens of the newly created district Tseminyu today flocked the State Handloom Expo, which was formally opened by Tseminyu Deputy Commissioner Dr Zasekuolie Chiisi at Tseminyu Town Hall.
With the theme “My Handloom My Pride,’ the Expo registered 60 stalls from home state as well as other parts of the country.
This Expo, features the diverse traditional products, which call for popularization in term of propagating the rich culture and commercial viability beyond the country
Organized by Nagaland Apex Weavers & Artisans Co-operative Federation Ltd, Dimapur (WEAFED) and sponsored by office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, New Delhi, this expo will continue till September 14.
Addressing the inaugural session, Chiisi complimented the concerned authority for such platform, which, he said, has opened a door for sustainable livelihood for fraternity of weavers.
He challenged the local weavers not to confine their activities locally but to target for international market.’
“The products should be flown to overseas,” he said.
Thungchanbeni Patton, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Cooperation department, Nagaland also present at the inaugural session.
WEAFED managing director Gwaruno Khing informed that the Expo will continue till September 14 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.
He invited the public to visit the Expo, which features various handloom products including jewellery, handicraft etc and being sold at affordable price. “We are grateful to Ministry of Textiles for sponsoring this Expo at Tseminyu,” he said.
Talking to The Morung Express, Khing aspire to invite the educational institutions in Tseminyu to this Expo on roster basis to enable the school children to familiarize themselves with the present trends of handloom industry and its contribution towards socio-economic growth.
Naresh Jambhulkar, Assistant Director, Weavers’ Service Centre Toluvi, Dimapur also delivered short speech at the programme and invited the weavers get in touch with the Centre to avail various beneficial packages being extended by Ministry of Textiles.
Weavers Service Centre Toluvi, Dimapur was established in 2015 with a view to cater the needs of the handloom weavers of Dimapur.
It aim to explore the commercial viability of the attractive designs and colour combinations of the region by way of product development and product diversification retaining the traditional look of the products.
“For this purpose, the Weavers’ Service Centre is exerting its efforts to divert the loin loom weavers to frame loom weaving through different training programnes and by technological upgradation in the areas where fly shuttle looms were working. This will also add to export potentiality of the country,” according to a pamphlet made available at the Expo.
