The Government has left no stone unturned in its efforts to resolve the long-standing Naga political issue, asserted Nagaland Governor La Ganesan today as the State joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 76th Republic Day 2025.
In the state capital Kohima, he unfurled the national flag and took the Rashtriya salute at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, along with his cabinet and senior government officials, was also present on the occasion.
The celebrations, held across the state, were marked by cultural presentations, award ceremonies, and the flagging off of the Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre.
In his address, Ganesan extended greetings to the people on the 76th Republic Day and paid tribute to the great leaders who fought for India’s freedom and secured rights for the people. He stated that the government has worked tirelessly to uphold the ideals embodied in the Constitution of India.
“It is in line with the spirit enshrined in the Constitution that the state government submitted its comments on the third draft of the Memorandum of Settlement in respect of the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority to the Ministry of Home Affairs,” he said.
He added, “Substantial progress has been made on the matter, and it is hoped that the remaining concerns of the ENPO (Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation) will be addressed in the same spirit of brotherhood.”
Touching on the Indo-Naga political issue, Ganesan asserted, “My government has spared no efforts to resolve the Naga political issue,” adding that the chief minister and his cabinet met with the Union Minister and apprised him of the people’s desire for an early solution to the Naga political issue.
He further pointed out that the district administration and the police in Nagaland have also spared no efforts in ensuring that peace reigns in the state. During 2024, the Nagaland Police Department continued its fight against drugs, seizing various drugs worth approximately Rs 49 crore, he informed.
The State Excise Department, during the period from April to November 2024, made seizures worth more than Rs 1.16 crore, he added.
Meanwhile, the Governor highlighted that while India as a nation has made tremendous progress, concerted efforts are imperative to make it a developed country by 2047.
“To make our nation a developed country by 2047, concerted efforts are required by all concerned in the fields of education and human development. Our state has been taking many initiatives in the education sector,” he noted.
On the occasion of Republic Day, Ganesan challenged the people to “remind ourselves of the responsibility we have towards achieving the higher ideals enshrined in our Constitution.”
“Let us work towards ensuring that we take the nation forward in the true spirit of the democratic ideals of our Constitution,” Ganesan added.
Later, Ganesan presented awards to achievers for their distinguished services.
The celebration was also marked by entertainment, cultural presentations, the flagging off of the Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre, band displays, exhibition stalls, and visits to institutions by charitable organisations.
