NPF legislator Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu has questioned State BJP for its cold approach towards the regional party, while asking the saffron party to “take it or leave it completely”.
Azo, who is the team leader of NPF Senapati division for the Manipur Assembly polls, stated this during an election campaign at Sarong Assembly constituency on Thursday, NPF Central Youth Wing (Media Cell) said in a press note.
He said BJP should change its double-standards approach and attitude towards NPF, adding that saffron party wanted NPF in Manipur but maintained distance in Nagaland.
Azo reminded that the regional party was formed on October 21, 1963 for Naga national cause and issue. Therefore, he claimed that the regional party was formed out of sweat, blood and tears when the Nagas were going through the most difficult times.
Further, he mentioned that former Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh would have continued his reign, had he not been belittled the Nagas and mistreated them.
Prior to NPF’s entry into Manipur, Azo alleged that Nagas were treated as second class citizens.
However, following the regional party’s entry into the State in 2012, he claimed that Nagas were treated with respect and dignity, adding that Nagas were emotionally integrated through politics.
The NPF legislator reminded the Nagas that NPF was linked with Naga identity as this was the only party in the country that spoke for the cause and rights of Naga people. He said, “We have a dream to come together one day and live as one family and NPF is the only party that can bring Nagas under one umbrella”.
He remarked that Manipur political dynamics were such that no party would be able to form a government without the support of NPF as the party would be a king maker. Therefore, he urged Nagas to vote for NPF party and elect its candidates in order to be part of the government, while requesting them to rise up to the occasion in order to protect their identity and interests.
