Special summary revision for BLOs under Chümoukedima, Niuland and Medziphema

Chümoukedima, August 20 (MExN): The District Administration of Chümoukedima organised a special summary revision for BLOs under Chümoukedima, Niuland and Medziphema district at DPDB Hall, DC office Chümoukedima on August 19.

During the meeting, DC Chümoukedima, Polan John, NCS, stated that over the years ECI has been introducing many new initiatives, programs and activities to manage electoral process but one of the most successful initiative is the concept of BLO which was introduced in 2006 and since that it has become a part, parcel and an integral part of election management.

He said that the role of the BLO is very crucial in the setting up of election management. Everyone must be experience in their own assignment and well aware of their responsibilities but ECI gives us new directives and so we have to keep ourselves updated with latest instructions and parameters and be tech savvy to handle apps, as everything is done through online or portal.

He highlighted on how to go about clean election process and said that the main basis for clean election is clean electoral roll, it has to be accurate and constantly be updated, so that it will reflect the real details for all the electoral and this summary is the best opportunity to cleansing our elections system by rectifying the facts, by deleting who are transferred or expired and by including those who are eligible voters. He said that the Election Commission or CEO may come up with huge booklets with instructions but ultimately it goes down to cutting edge that is the grassroot level and BLO who is the cutting edge who carries out, executes the instructions to the commission.

“We have programmes and activities organised but if the BLO does not execute his instructions properly on the ground then everything will be a failure,” he added.

He asserted that everything is online and all the performance will be showed in the dashboard and can easily monitor basing on all the data which they have, will be able to assessed depending on the areas which BLO is performing and who is not performing.

Requesting each individual to be responsible and carry out their assignments, he said, “One cannot be casual on summary revision, they have to ensure that electoral process to be followed and be done smoothly.”

He also highlighted about the registration of roll and gender disparity which needs to cross check and cover all. The interface that the public have is with the BLO and will be approached to them mostly, so urged them to be positive and responsive to the public in helping and guiding them so things are done properly. Also pointed on important aspect of summary revision of house to house survey, request all BLO’s to mandatorily visit each household and find out the actual status of the household under their jurisdiction. He reminded the BLOs that personal preferences should not interfere with their official work or misuse their privileges but maintain neutral, impartial and be transparent. In conclusion encouraged all to work together and show that there is error free electoral roll and healthy electoral roll that will bring improvement in the election management process.

Later, at the meeting ADC, Chümoukedima Dr Kuzonyi Wideo and ADC, Medziphema also highlighted the activities and role of the BLOs.
