Nagaland Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir on Friday handed over six newly purchased ambulance vehicles to the tribal hoho representatives of Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Tseminyu and Peren districts. The vehicles dubbed, ‘Community Ambulance’ were handed over during an event held at Neo Motors truck dealership, 5th Mile, Chümoukedima.
According to the MP he explained that through discussions with the district planning officers (DPO), having felt the need to provide adequate healthcare facilities to people in far-flung rural areas it was decided to provide separate ambulances to the apex tribal bodies. “The best authoritative body to serve the people are the tribal hohos,” he said.
This initiative was undertaken through the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). Through the MPLADS, it allows MPs to recommend or propose developmental projects in their constituencies.
Jamir stated that the other districts will also receive their own ambulances as well during the second and third installments. He noted, “I hope that the hohos will use the vehicles in providing the best service to the people.”
The MP also stressed on the need to identify needy persons and assist them in any way possible without any personal bias. For which the Nagas have to stand united and shan away from tribalism, he said. A lot more can be done if Nagas are united together, Jamir added.
He stated that, “besides the political aspirations we should start from the basic issues and address them one at a time.”
Besides the health care sector, Jamir expressed concerns over youth unemployment which needed significant attention and will be tackled gradually in the days to come.
The vehicles were distributed to tribal hoho representatives from the Angami Public Organisation, Chakhesang People Organisation, Lotha Hoho, Sumi Hoho, Rengma and Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland.
