The Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC) and 9th Kohima town ACCC under the aegis of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) undertook a rally ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in Kohima on November 29.
The Congress leaders and workers joined the rally from Congress Bhavan Kohima to Kigwema village.
Through a peaceful rally, they shouted slogan likes “Save Nagaland Save India,” “We need action not words,” “We need job,” Save Our Constitution,” “Work Together Lead Together,” “We Need Development,” “We need quality leadership,” etc.
The programme was chaired by KDCC president Kevi Vizo.
‘Congress is for peace and harmony’
Addressing the rally, NPCC working president Khriedi Theunuo said “Through this march, I hope it will give a strong message that Congress is for peace and harmony.”
“We are for justice, we are for equality and we are against corruption,” he said.
He stated that Congress could see that in many of the projects, money are not being utilized properly. He continued that the state government “is trying to manipulate and try to fool us.”
Stating that there is no rule of law governing in the state, he said “People have no respect for the rules for the government because the government is not for the welfare of the people.”
For Nagas, we have to very careful, he said, because the BJP government in the last parliamentary elections came out with 48 pages manifesto in which it promised to the people of India that they will enforce/implement the uniform civil code and citizenship amendment act.
He expressed apprehension that if the uniform civil code is to be enforced, then, Nagaland which enjoying Article 371 (A), “We are under threat and our rights will be taken away.”
He said that Congress party fight for secularism and justice adding that under Congress rules, it respect all the religions and everybody enjoys equality and justice.
He said that Congress has taken up a movement to unite the people of India and a movement to create awareness to “know our rights.”
