Tuensang/Dimapur, October 19 (MExN): The Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference), on October 18, announced the temporary suspension of the second phase of its agitation demanding fulfillment of its ‘Charter of Demands’ concerning the Sao Chang College (SCC).
The SCC is the sole college in Tuensang district.
The agitation was suspended following a letter received from Nagaland’s Minister of Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, on Wednesday inviting the conference for a consultative meeting to be held in Kohima on October 20.
However, the closure of the SCC will continue till the fulfillment of the ‘Charter of Demands,’ the CWS informed.
Meanwhile, the Minister’s letter informed the CWS that the proposed meeting would discuss various issues demanded by the conference. He further informed that the “deployment of principal matter” would be done by November 15.
Regarding the college bus issue, the Minister added that the matter is under process and one bus will be provided, while the remaining buses will be taken up later.
The CWS started its first phase of agitation by shutting down the college from October 12 and initiated its second phase from October 18 by shutting down all the government departmental offices within the district.
The CWS’ ‘Charter of Demands’ includes the deployment of a principal; addressing shortages of teaching faculties and staff; allocation of more buses; and upgradation of the science laboratory.
