Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) on Tuesday informed that it has filed a complaint with the State Crime Branch, PHQ, Kohima, stating that it has received complaints of the Nagaland Rural Development Department “threatening the beneficiary villagers of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme.”

The PMAY-G scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme pertaining to construction of houses for the rural poor in hilly areas.

In the complaint, copies of which were issued to the media, RPP Secretary Akum Longkumer and General Secretary Amai Chingkhu claimed that it had received complaints about the RD department “harassing the poor beneficiaries at the behest of NDPP-BJP Coalition” and said that the serious issue cannot be ignored by the Crime Branch.

According to the RPP, “years back thousands of beneficiaries were identified and a first installment of Rs 22,000 approximate was deposited into the beneficiary accounts, that is, for the construction of houses under the said scheme.

Much later, after the release of the second installment, that is, Rs 88,000 into the accounts of the same beneficiaries, the RD department officials are now demanding that the beneficiaries withdraw the amount of Rs 78,000 and hand over the cash to the respective BDOs.”

While the installment amount may vary block-wise, the gist of the complaint is the extortion aspect which the Crime Branch is more than competent to investigate, the Party stated in the complaint which was addressed to the Officer-in-Charge, State Crime PS, PHQ.

“The contention of the RPP is that the RD department’s pressure tactics is nothing but extortion,” the party asserted.

The RPP went on to state that it is submitting the complaint “believing that the State Crime Police Station will investigate the subject matter in all seriousness regardless of political pressure which will surely be exerted upon your authority.”

The complaint is in public interest and therefore action taken report may be intimated to the RPP without delay, it added.

Meanwhile, while the State Crime Branch, PHQ, investigates the matter, the RPP appealed to all the beneficiaries of the scheme “not to give in to the threats of the RD department – that the beneficiaries should not return the money which rightfully belongs to them.”

With regard to any further complaints, it asked the beneficiaries to contact the following Rising Youth officials: Hekito Sema, Vice-President, (7005159255); Tokato Chishi, Gen Secretary,  (9366957822); Khithemu Kath, Secretary,  (6909027052); Kulupoyi Vadeo, President, Phek district,  (9862847736); and Nigel Sangtam, Secretary, Dimapur-Chümoukedima-Niuland, (7005618400).
