Staff Reporters DIMAPUR, SEP 23 (NPN): Smooth movement of traffic along NH-29 was hampered by continues rockslides near Chümoukedima police check gate here on Wednesday.
The rockslides had not only been posing problems for commuters, but had also damaged several vehicles besides one excavator in the last few days.
According to traffic police, the ongoing four-lane construction works led to continuous rockslides in the area affecting vehicular movement. The traffic personnel at site lamented that commuters were also not paying heed to the warnings and safety precautionary signs and blinkers placed at strategic points to avoid casualties.
Around 15 traffic personnel deployed at the rockslide area assisted commuters and vehicular movement.
Informing that there had been no casualties till date, the traffic police personnel, however, cautioned commuters that it was not advisable to take the route.
Vehicular movement was slightly affected due to rockslides, but the highway remained open for traffic.
On September 20, 2020, deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, R Soundararajan, imposed total restriction of all movements from Chathe River bridge (Patkai bridge) to Kukidolong from 6am to 10pm as a safety measure and in view of the road restoration work.
DC advised general public to take alternative from Dimapur to Kohima for light vehicles via 7th Mile-New DC office-Shokhuvi-Razaphe-Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Jhornapani/Medziphema and vice versa.
