PDA leaders meet BJP top brass over all-party govt
A delegation from Nagaland led by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio including deputy CM, Y. Patton and minister and state BJP president Temjen Imna Along but without NPF members are currently meeting central leaders in Delhi.
As reported earlier, the delegation was scheduled to meet with top BJP leaders in the light of recent move to form an all-party government and opposition-less assembly under ‘Nagaland United Government’.
The declared objective of the assembly becoming a single ruling phenomenon is supposed to be to impress upon the Naga groups to also come together for an early solution to the Naga political issue.
On Saturday, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio met with Union Home minister Amit Shah at his official residence in Delhi. Rio in a tweet, did not mention about the purpose of the trip to Delhi but only tweeted that he had a “fruitful discussion” with Amit Shah regarding the Naga political issue.
“I am grateful to him for always being supportive of our collective effort for peace and development of Nagaland,” tweeted Rio.
As reported earlier, Rio along with deputy CM, Y. Patton and state BJP president & minister Temjen Imna Along were summoned to Delhi by the BJP Central leadership to discuss about the move for the proposed all-party “United Government” with the inclusion of NPF.
When contacted, Imna Along informed Nagaland Post that he along with deputy CM, Y. Patton had met Amit Shah prior to Rio’s meeting. The duo also met national BJP president JP Nadda and national BJP general secretary BL Santosh.
Along said the state BJP leaders will wait for the directive/decision of the Central leadership, but did not divulge anything more.
Though the state BJP was initially silent on the issue, it along with NDPP, NPF and two Independent legislators after signing a five-point resolution on August 16, declared that they had “agreed in principle to form an all-party government under the nomenclature “Nagaland United Government”. They said the move was to work together towards “achieving a common goal for an early Naga political solution.”
Sources said that the Central BJP leadership was yet to clarify its stand on the move for an all-party government in the State.
Later, in a tweet Along said: “We had an important discussion on matters associated with the political affairs of Nagaland as well as the Naga Political solution.” “I thank Hon’ble central leaders for their constant support and guidance for the welfare of the party at the state as well as the grassroots level,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, another delegation of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) led by its convener and minister Health and Family Welfare S. Pangnyu Phom are also currently in Delhi to meet central leaders.
ENLU secretary and MLA, C.L. John informed Nagaland Post that the members are in Delhi to meet and apprise the central leaders about development projects of ENPO areas, as promised by the Centre during 2018 state assembly election.
