Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio today emphasised the need for ‘economy of scale’ in the production of handicrafts to make them more competitive and commercially viable.
Inaugurating the Bamboo-Based Craft Concentration Centre at Heirloom Naga Centre in Sovima on November 22, he underscored the importance of large-scale production to maintain commercial viability.
Rio also acknowledged the role of emporiums in cosmopolitan cities as “our ambassadors” but expressed regret over instances of them being nearly empty, emphasising the importance of consistency in business.
To this end, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of quality control, skill refinement, and the establishment of collection points at various levels to market products and compete nationally and internationally.
He also stressed the necessity of providing local artisans with suitable markets to sell their products.
Additionally, Rio addressed the importance of maintaining all 17 Morungs in Kisama village, emphasizing that the festival of festivals provides an opportune moment for Nagas to showcase their rich and diverse culture to the world.
He noted that the culmination of festivals from the 17 Naga tribes offers a tremendous opportunity for craftsmen, weavers, and artisans to exhibit, promote, and sell their products.
