Dimapur, April 26 (MExN): Responding to the appeal from Naga leaders in Arunachal for Naga fire victims of Longliang village in Khonsa district, Global Naga Forum (GNF) and Naga Mothers Association (NMA) started a donation drive of cash and kind.
On April 17, a six member relief team consisting of GNF and NMA, left for Khonsa on the ‘Peace and Relief Mission.’
The relief team was led by Dr Rosemary Dzuvichu and Abeiu Meru of GNF/NMA, Pastor Adahe Nelli, GNF, Yapang Longkhumer, GNF, Gugu Haralu, GNF and Tongpang Longchar, GNF.
Accompanied by Arunachal Naga leaders, the relief team visited the devastated village of Longliang, high up the mountainous region on the Myanmar border on April 18 morning and handed over the cheque of Rs 200758, and cash of Rs 10,000 from the Mao Baptist Church, Chümoukedima to the Raja and Village Council of Longliang village, stated a press release from GNF and NMA.
The 98 sacks of clothes, shoes, blankets, utensils, rice, salt, essential items were handed over to the Village Council Relief committee.
In the gathering of village leaders, church and political leaders, Pastor Nelli led the prayers for peace and God’s blessings on the villagers.
The Raja and Village Council leaders conveyed gratitude to the GNF and NMA and all generous donors who had sent such help to this furthermost corner of Naga village in Tirap.
The GNF and NMA have expressed gratitude to the donors from across the world, families and friends, and Naga leaders, who came forward to help the fire victims; to the Deputy Chief Minister and DGP Nagaland, for helping the relief team with the transport to carry the relief materials to Arunachal; to the Police drivers of the vehicles who travelled on the humanitarian mission; GNF members of Arunachal, former Home Minister James Wanglat and Gawang, women leader Lungya and Naga friends who arranged local hospitality at Khonsa and accompanied the Relief team.
