Red Cross Committee holds first aid workshop at Phek Government College

PHEK, MARCH 24 (MExN): The Red Cross Committee (RCC) of Phek Government College (PGC) conducted a “First Aid Workshop cum Orientation of Youth Red Cross” in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Phek Branch, on March 20 at the college premises.

Dzuthono Vero, a fourth-semester B.A. student, chaired the event, while Dziesetuonuo Linyu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and RCC Convenor, delivered the welcome address.

Neizote Venuh, Honorary Secretary of IRCS, Phek Branch, served as the keynote speaker, providing an overview of IRCS and the Youth Red Cross (YRC). He urged students to join the YRC to engage in humanitarian efforts within their communities.

The workshop featured Dr. Zhose Vero, a Medical Officer at Phek District Hospital, as the resource person. His session, titled “Demonstration of Some Basic First Aid Techniques,” covered fundamental first aid principles, including emergency assessment, obtaining consent, and ethical considerations. Dr. Vero demonstrated techniques such as CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), the recovery position, and first aid responses for choking, drowning, wounds, fractures, burns, and other medical emergencies.

Students actively participated in hands-on CPR and recovery position demonstrations. Several students registered with the Youth Red Cross to volunteer for humanitarian causes. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vilhoutuonuo Theünuo, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences.
