Correspondent KOHIMA, SEP 18 (NPN) : Governor of Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi, was sworn in as the 20th Governor of Nagaland at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima on September 17, 2021. He assumed his office on Friday as additional charge.
Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench judge, justice S Serto administered the Oath of Office to the governor-designate in the presence of the chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy chief minister Y Patton, NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer, ministers, senior officers of the state and central government and other dignitaries, a Raj Bhavan statement informed.
Prof. Mukhi was given additional charge of Nagaland after governor RN Ravi was appointed as Tamil Nadu governor. In his address to the people of Nagaland on assumption of office as the governor of Nagaland, Prof. Mukhi pledged to dedicate himself selflessly and tirelessly to the service of the people of Nagaland.
Describing Nagaland as an embodiment of the Indian nation, exhibiting unity in diversity, diverse in its ethnicity and unified by the Naga identity, Prof. Mukhi said the rich tapestry of Naga culture and tradition exemplified that.
Asserting that Naga political issue has covered a remarkable path of progress under the guidance of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the governor expressed confidence that soon “we will have a comprehensive and inclusive solution ensuring utmost honour and dignity to the Naga people.” Taking note of some of Naga products receiving GI Tag recently, Mukhi said that with such unique flora and fauna and its age-old culture and tradition, Nagaland had a lot to be proud of and that needed such recognition.
He said that there were still many such things that deserved such acknowledgment and respect. “We will work together to make Nagaland the Cultural hub of India and a dreamt about and sought-after tourist destination, ” he added.
Governor also said his endeavour would be to help create an inclusive ecosystem of optimum opportunities for young people in Nagaland so they contribute in the transformation of the state. In recent times, he said Nagaland has witnessed an unprecedented pace of growth, specifically access to affordable health and education facilities better connectivity, and infrastructure. Prof. Mukhi expressed belief that the optimal blending of people-centric technology, public policies, and their implementation would push the present pace to a higher plane and help the state focus on a higher benchmark.
Further, the governor called upon the people of the state, especially the youth, to arise, awake, and partner in the development of Nagaland. The newly appointed governor received Rashtriya Salute presented by 10th IR Battalion at the Raj Bhavan courtyard. Prior to his appointment as Assam governor, Prof. Mukhi was the lieut. governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He earlier held the portfolios of finance, planning, excise & taxation and higher education in Delhi government.
