KCCI appeals business community not to take advantage

In the final days of the run up to Christmas Day, the market places are the busiest. In Kohima, this week, markets are sprawling with customers shopping for apparels, Christmas decors, cakes and gifts and food items including meat. 

In fact, every inch of parking space in the heart of the capital are seen literally occupied by increasing vehicles that made a beeline of traffic in most of the roads. 

However, the rush of the season has created certain businesses to adversely soar prices of items while taking advantage of the season. For instance, most sought items like meat or cakes and clothes both new and second hand clothes were reportedly being sold at a higher rate. 

A member of the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) shared that it has recently received reports from meat butchers that the rates of pork meat has shot up to Rs 350 per kilo. 

The KCCI member attributed the underlying reason, probably to pig supply dealers from Assam taking advantage of festive demands of pork in Nagaland. 

KCCI President, Kezhazer Angami asserted and reminded business establishment that customers are the most valuable assets of their end. 

He requesting the traders to provide good services to the customers and asked the business community not to take advantage of the demand of customers amid the festive season and sell items at reasonable price or as pre-existing price, especially prices of items not fixed by concerned municipal council.

The KCCI member further requested groups or NPGs to abstain from undertaking collections and donations upon the trading community on the pretext of the ongoing festivity.
