DIMAPUR, JAN 5 (NPN) : Rising People’s Party (RPP) has alleged that the politics of gaining unbridled power was the sole agenda of the coalition government.
RPP president Joel Naga and general secretary Amai Chingkhu in a press release said from purchasing MLAs, “we are slowly moving into the domain of purchased districts”, and asserted that RPP would not be surprised if tomorrow the coalition of NDPP, BJP and NPF carved out more districts on the give-and-take policy of “We give you districts, you elect our MLAs unopposed.”
They pointed out that the December 28, 2021 open letter of Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC), the apex Yimkhiung tribal body, made it very clear that chief minister Neiphiu Rio promised them a district if NDPP candidate S Keoshu was elected unopposed, which the Yimkhiung voters did.
Noting that so far neither the chief minister nor NDPP, BJP and NPF had refuted the assertion, they said this meant the assertion was true.
Accusing Rio and his entire cabinet of deciding to throw the entire Yimkhiung community under the bus, they said the cabinet also decided on the “less appetising” move to upgrade Shamator sub-division into a full-fledged district in principle to add insult to injury, which fooled no one.
The RPP leaders said never in history had an elected government blackmailed an entire community into submission for an MLA seat like what UDA coalition had done. They alleged power of the State was shockingly misused for party politics, but added nothing about the UDA surprised them anymore.
Against such “dirty and unscrupulous politics”, they wanted to know how was it that the good men and women in NDPP, BJP and NPF continued to remain silent without their conscience being pricked.
“Let history record that the coalition of NDPP, BJP and NPF conducted one of the most abhorrent wholesale businesses – purchase of an MLA seat in lieu of promise of a new district. Let history also record how the Yimkhiung people were openly stabbed in the back by Rio’s opposition-less government,” the release mentioned.
However, to the credit of the Yimkhiungs, Joel and Amai observed that members of the community refused to be victims and rightly fought back by exposing the “treachery and lies” of this coalition government for which, they said RPP highly appreciated the community.
They said every right-thinking individual and citizen should stand up against the “immoral” dispensation called UDA coalition.
