‘Police Commemoration Day’ observed in Dimapur

DIMAPUR , October 22: Along with the rest of the country, Dimapur police on Thursday observed Police Commemoration Day, here, at the office of the commissioner of police.

Addressing the gathering, Dimapur commissioner of police, Rothihu Tetseo stated that the day was observed every year on October 21 in memory of police personnel who had died while performing their duty.

CP narrated how on October 21, 1959, Indian police were patrolling in Ladakh, bordering China, where the patrolling party was ambushed by the Chinese force. He said that in spite of the Indian police’s best efforts they were outnumbered by Chinese forces and captured.

In memory of the incident, he informed that the IGP conference held on 1960 decided to celebrate PCD annually all over India. Reading out the “Roll of Honour”, the CP disclosed that a total of 377 police personnel had died while performing their duty, from January 1, 2020, till date, in the country. He also informed that in Nagaland, 14 police personnel died due to Covid while performing their duty in the last two years.

Earlier, invocation was offered by Pastor, PBC, Dimapur, Rakhu Livi, while Shok kar “last post” and “Samarak ko Salami” was offered by all police personnel present followed by laying of wreaths by CP and other officers. (Staff Reporter)

173 Bn CRPF: 173 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) observed “Police Commemoration Day” Thursday at the headquarters, Airfield, Dimapur.

In a press release, 173 CRPF informed that in a brief speech, commandant 173 Bn CRPF, Vishnu Gautam recalled the valour of courageous police personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

He recalled the sacrifices by CRPF men while defending the borders with China on October 21, 1959 against Chinese Army aggression at Hot Springs in Ladakh where a small CRPF patrol party was ambushed and outnumbered by Chinese army. Gautam said 10 CRPF men made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

In order to commemorate the exceptional act of valour by the men of CRPF, Gautam said October 21 was observed as “Police Commemoration Day”. He also encouraged every force personnel should to inculcate and follow their acts of bravery so that they could inspire future generations.The programme was attended by all ranks and files of the unit. It may be mentioned that Police Commemoration Day was observed in various districts across the state.
