Minister Along call for effective implementation of NEP 2020

Nagaland Higher Education & Tourism minister Temjen Imna Along stressed on the need to implement the National Education Policy 2020 in an effective manner.

Addressing the academic assembly on the theme “Challenges the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020” and Krishna Chandra Gandhi Award 2024 ceremony here on November 9, the minister maintained that education system plays a pivotal role in moulding the future of the nation.

This academic assembly, held at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, was organised by Purvottar Janajati Shiksha Samiti (PJSS), North East in association with Higher Education Department, Government of Nagaland under the aegis of Janjati Shiksha Samiti, Nagaland.

“There is no other system that is more pivotal in reshaping the destiny of a people or the destiny of a nation, than education. The pursuit of seeking knowledge has been there from early man onwards,” he said.

In this, Along called for active involvement of the School Education and Higher Education departments as well as community and all leaders, saying that “we should truly make sure that NEP 2020 is implemented not only in the system of papers, but in us.”

If the community is not involved, if the NGOs are not involved, if leaders are not involved in teaching, and pursuing NEP, the government alone cannot do it, he said.

The effort of the government is very good to provide education to all, but there is a need to remodel the education system for which teachers have to forthcoming to improvise the NEP 2020, Along said.

Dr Ramkrishna Rao, National President of Vidhya Bharati stressed on the need of the school to be NEP enabled and teachers to be graded under NEP.

He said that empowerment of teachers under NEP and implementation of the policy should not be left to the government alone but all stakeholders should own the responsibility.

Rao also called for integration of the learning methods as the entire thrust is on personality development initiatives for an overall holistic development.

Nagaland School Education & SCERT, Advisor Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome and Nagaland’s Chief Secretary Dr J Alam also exhorted the gathering.

The occasion was marked with conferring of Krishna Chandra Gandhi Award to Zakienei Khoubve, retired Additional Director (H) of Directorate of School Education Nagaland, in recognition of his dedicated social service and also contributing towards spreading Hindi language in the state.

Minister Along along with other dignitaries released a book on Piyong Temjen Jamir authored by Pankaj Sinha, State Organising Secretary Janjati Shiksha Samiti (Vidhya Bharati) Nagaland.

Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury, secretary of Vidhya Bharati NE chaired the programme while Pankaj Sinha delivered welcome address. Dr Horam Aniya, Assistant Secretary Vidhya Bharati NE proposed vote of thanks.
