Phek dist 50th anniversary souvenir released

Kohima, December 23 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio released Phek district 50th anniversary souvenir during the celebration at Phek town on December 21.

“Since its inception, Phek district has been relentlessly contributing to the growth and progress of Nagaland,” Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan penned in a souvenir.

Governor stated that Phek district with its rich natural resources and agriculturally vibrant and self reliant inhabitants has the potential to push forward for the economic growth and development for the state of Nagaland.

“Phek district has witnessed tremendous progress on all fronts during the last 50 years of its existence as a district,” Rio stated in a souvenir, adding “This is mainly due to the fact that the people of Phek district-both the Chakhesangs  and  Pochurys have woven together beautifully the culture of hard work and modernity, while also maintaining unity and ensuring peaceful condition in the district.

Rio urged the people of Phek district to be a leader in hard work and progress and in the area of preservation of our culture and traditions.

Phek district was established in 1973 by segregating Phek sub division from Kohima district.  A.Imkongmar Aier was appointed as the first Deputy Commissioner of Phek district.

The District Headquarter Phek town lies 130 km from state capital Kohima.

As per 2011 census, Phek district has a literacy rate of 79.13 per cent.

There are 102 recognized villages in Phek district, according to the souvenir.

Phek district has a population of 1, 63, 294 as per 2011 census.

With a total area of 2026 Sq km, Phek district is rich in flora and fauna with 70% of its land covered in evergreen forest. The Deputy Commissioner’s office is located in Phek Town.

The district is split into 14 administrative circle, in which Additional Deputy Commissioner headquarters are located in Pfutsero, Chozuba and Meluri.
SDO is in Chizami and EAC headquarters in Sakraba, Sekriizu, Phokhungri, Khezhakeno, Chetheba, Khuza, Zuketsa, Phor, Lephori and Razeba.
