As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has increased the transformer capacity of the Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Dimapur from existing 200 MVA to 420 MVA. PGCIL informed that the 220/132kV GIS substation upgradation was dedicated to the nation as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. With this, the system will strengthen the power transmission network of the State in particular and other North Eastern states in general, PGCIL stated.

Kuda Village Council (KVC) chairman Vikie Nagi inaugurated the new capacity in the presence of PGCIL chief manager Adarsh Singh, GIS senior deputy general manager (DGM) Dhiren Gam Pupu and SDO (Trans) Rokobeituo Iralu at a short programme.

Observing that the State had various limitations and had to depend on other States for power, he remarked that Power Grid was doing a commendable job in distribution of power throughout the country. He said that Nagaland was also getting its share though it might not be sufficient to meet the actual power requirement during the peak hours.

Nagi expressed the hope that with the upgradation of the substation, power supply would be more stable now and overall power scenario would improve throughout the State.

Briefing about the formation of Kuda village, he assured to extend cooperation and support PGCIL on behalf of the village.

Informing the gathering about the project, Singh said Power Grid Dimapur air insulated substation (AIS) was constructed in 1994 and its capacity increased in subsequent years.

He claimed that Power Grid, a Maharatna Central public sector undertaking (CPSU) under Ministry of Power, had successfully upgraded and commissioned the more-than-25-year-old 220/132Kv Dimapur AIS to new technology of GIS with additional 2×160 MVA, 220/132Kv ICT under North-eastern Region Strengthening Scheme VIII, increasing transformer capacity to reduce maintenance and increase reliability and quality of power.
Short speeches were also delivered by Pupu and Iralu.

The programme was chaired by junior engineer D Nakhro; KPS Rathore (NERPSIP Dimapur POWERGRID) highlighted about the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations while vote of thanks was delivered by engineer Anup Kumar Roy.
