An oil tanker met a fiery fate after it rolled down a road in Pfutsero’s Forest colony. The incident happened around 2:30 pm.

According to the Phek police, the tanker (NL 07 AA 1461) was transporting diesel fuel and headed for the town’s Kezo fuel station when it met with an accident. Loose soil on the edge of the road caved under the weight of the loaded truck containing 12,000 litres of diesel, which reportedly ignited.

It took the fire brigade, assisted by the Assam Rifles, police as well as civilians, about 2 hours to control the flames. Fortunately, there was no human casualty.

Other sources said that the tanker tumbled down some 20 feet, taking with it electricity wires, before coming to a stop at a godown below, located facing another road.

The food items stored in the godown were charred. It contained rice, lentil and vegetables. The driver of the tanker, detained by the police, was said to have sustained minor injury.

While the truck was charred, diesel in one of the three cargo chambers was said to be intact but leaking.
