Correspondent KOHIMA Dec 1 (NPN) : Deputy chief minister Y Patton inaugurated the Seithogei-IG Stadium by-pass here on Tuesday, fulfilling his commitment to make the road motorable before the Hornbill Festival.
Speaking at a brief programme organised on the occasion near Kohima Destitute Orphanage at NH 29, he recalled that he had given the assurance and commitment to open the road during his visit in November 6.
He acknowledged the efforts of the department officials led by south division engineer and team for tirelessly working to complete the project as per schedule.
He also appreciated Kohima village leaders and citizens for extending cooperation and support in ensuring that there was no disturbance and no controversy on the issue of landownership.
Patton remarked that it was a good example for other districts to emulate for development activities.
He expressed the hope that the road would ease travellers’ woes from districts like Wokha, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Longleng and Zunheboto as it would shorten the distance by 6 km. Patton said the by-pass would also help people from Secretariat, IG Stadium, Tinpati, High School and other surrounding areas to travel to Dimapur without having to travel through the heart of the State Capital.
He said the road would now be handed over to Kohima Smart City Development Ltd.
Further, the deputy chief minister mentioned that the road materialised with the support of L Khel and T Khel of Kohima village and local MLA Khriehu Liezietsu’s support.
Meanwhile, chief engineer of roads and bridges Kahuli Sema appreciated the Kohima village for extending support to the project and the team of Kohima PWD South Division led by executive engineer.
The deputy chief minister was accompanied by minister Tongpang Ozukum, advisers Imnatiba and Medo Yhokha, legislator Khriehu Liezietsu, director general of police T John Longkumer, principal secretary Menukhol John, PWD engineer-in-chief Limanaro and a host of other State government officials, besides Kohima Lotha Hoho, Kohima Lotha Students’ Union, Kohima village and khel leaders.
