Pangnyu reviews COVID management

DIMAPUR, June 13:  Minister for Health and Family Welfare (H&FW), S Pangnyu Phom Saturday reviewed management of COVID-19 pandemic and COVID-19 vaccination by holding a video conference meeting with the district Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), Medical Superintendents (MS) and district departmental officers of all the districts at NIC Secretariat.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the status of COVID-19 management in all the districts with emphasis on human resource, absenteeism, coordination, implementation of COVID-19 services upto the village level and inter-sectoral coordination.

Pangnyu also instructed the district authorities to prepare necessary facilities and treatment centres for post COVID-19 management.

Though the curve of second wave of COVID-19 was bending, the minister said the department and public must not be complacent but prepare for possible third wave.

While appreciating the relentless efforts of the health care workers in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, Pangnyu cautioned that any unauthorized absence from duty shall be not be tolerated and would be dealt swiftly with disciplinary actions.

Reviewing the COVID testing and vaccination status in all the districts, the minister emphasized on ramping up testing and vaccination.

He took stock of the status of availability of equipment such as oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators and oxygen ventilators as well as essential drugs.

The minister also asked the districts to expedite the civil works for the oxygen generation plants in the districts for early installation of the PSA plants.

Pangnyu also acknowledged contributions and services from many quarters especially the FBOs, Naga Voluntary Women Association, various organisations and individuals as well as government of india and development partners such as World bank, WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, Jhpiego etc.

At the meeting, each district gave a presentation on COVID status which was followed by a detailed discussion on the issue.

The meeting was also attended by principal secretary, Amardeep Singh Bhatia; secretary, Wezope Kenye; principal director Dr. Neikhrielie Khimiao; joint secretary, Ajit K.Ranjan; director (FW) Dr. Thorhusie Katiry; director (dental) Dr. Theyiephrezo Khimiao; joint director Dr. Kika Longkumer; joint director, Dr. Neisakho Kire and deputy director, Dr. Nyan Kikon.
