The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today honoured S Supongmeren Jamir for winning Lok Sabha election 2024 from Nagaland.

Addressing a thanksgiving program organised by NPCC at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, the newly elected MP said people have given the mandate to him through the party with the hope that Congress is the most secular party in the country. It is a great miracle of God that Congress has won against the ruling dispensation, he said.

“Our responsibility now is to serve the people with utmost humility as we had made the commitment during the election campaign. We all are the elements to bring glory for the Congress party in the state,” he said.

There may be lots of shortcomings within the Party but all have to come forward with suggestions for bringing up the leadership and also help the Congress to form the government by 2028, he said.

Maintaining that Congress contested in 42 wards for ULB elections, and won seven seats, he said the the wins in the ULB polls wins are all assets for the Congress.

Jamir called upon party leaders to be dedicated and bring along their own family members so that they can mobilise better strength for the 2028 elections.  “We want Congress government in the state,” he said.

Cong will make efforts to connect with grassroots: Mukherjee
AICC Secretary In-Charge of Nagaland, Ranajit Mukherjee lauded the hard work of the party functionaries in the success of party candidates in the state.

Thanking the electorate, he said Congress has not formed the government in the Centre but it is a major boost to the party as it has improved the number of seats in the Parliament. He viewed that while the BJP formed the government, morally they have lost as they could not achieve their target of 400 seats.

He further stated that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat jodo yatra has played a crucial role in the win of Supongmeren in Nagaland despite the election being “a fight between David and Goliath with 60 MLAs against zero of the Congress.”

“We connected with the people of Nagaland through the yatra at the village level and urban areas. While this time the clean & fair election initiatives of the villages and church gave a fair result responding to the autocratic rule of the BJP,” he said.

Lashing out against the BJP-led NDA government for not solving the Naga political issue, he said that the government has shown no interest and also does not bother to solve the Manipur crisis.

Mukherjee also said that the Congress sympathizes and stands along with Eastern Nagaland for the developmental needs of the area. He appealed to the party leaders to create scope for the party functionaries of the ENPO area to work for their welfare.

Various organizations of NPCC including Mahila, Youth, Seva Dal, NSUI, Minority Committee and district units felicitated Jamir on his win in the LS polls.

The programme was chaired by NPCC Vice President W. Akum while welcome address was delivered by NPCC Working President Khriedi Theunuo. Vote of thanks was proposed by NPCC Vice President Capt. GK Zhimomi.
