Dimapur, October 3 (MExN): The odd-even system for non-essential vehicular movement within Dimapur Town and NH-29 till Chumukedima town will resume with effect from October 5- 31, an official notification informed on Saturday.
The earlier odd-even system, imposed as social distancing measures against the spread of COVID-19, ended on September 30.
The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, RothihuTetso in the notification on October 3 said that odd-even system will continue as per the existing mechanism.
Vehicles ending with odd registration numbers (1,3,5,7 &9) will be allowed to ply on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday only vehicle while those with ending with even numbers (2,4,6,8& 0) will be allowed to ply on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (2,4,6,8& 0).
The restriction will not be enforced on Sundays, the notification stated. Two wheelers are also exempted from the traffic restrictions.
The category under essential services as notified earlier will be exempted as well as Government servants on bonafide government duties and vehicles involved in providing essential services involved in COVID-19 related duties will also be exempted from the purview of the restrictions, it said.
However, they have to produce relevant documents and valid ID proof, it added.
All heavy vehicles except those engaged in four lane construction work with valid permit will be restricted from plying within the town area and highway area from 09hrs to 15 hrs, the notification further informed.
Violation of aforementioned order will be penalized U/S 177 & 179 of the MV Act 1988, it added.
The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur also appealed all citizens for cooperation in the interest of public safety.
