Advocates for restoring normalcy and  meaningful reconciliation outside legal court

Kohima, June 8 (MExN): In a significant development, the Angami Public Organisation (APO) and Kohima Village Council (KVC) today ‘fervently and sincerely’ appealed both the leaders of Naga Club and Naga Students Federation (NSF) to allow third party mediation to resolve the issue.

“Allow any willing and voluntary third party to mediate for restoring normalcy and bring about a meaningful reconciliation outside of the legal court at the earliest possible,” stated a joint appeal issued by APO President Razouvotuo Chatsu and Chairman, Kohima Village Council Hielievi Solo.

It further expressed apprehension over the “likely long-term consequences if the conflicts remain unresolved and inevitably become subjected to provocations and counter provocations.”

In this connection, the APO and KVC call for ceasing the issuance of press statements by both parties as well as “say or do anything against each other which may only aggravate the situation.”

The two organisations also requested the Naga Club “not to take up any activity at the site if the current volatile public sentiments for and against.”

The NSF, meanwhile, was requested to withdraw as “soonest possible” the First Information Report (FIR) complaint it filed following the demolition of its office on May 27, as a good gesture to find an amicable solution, acceptable and honourable to both the parties.

It must be noted here that the NSF office located in the Naga Club building Kohima was demolished in the wee hours of May 27 and the federation has filed a FIR compliant at North Police Station Kohima alleging demolition of its office by ‘unknown miscreants.’

The Naga Club, thereafter, made a representation to the Officer-In-Charge, North PS, terming the FIR “malicious and baseless,” among others, and claimed the building was demolished by “bonafide owner of the land and building” after eviction notice was issued.

In the meantime, 18 members of the Naga Club have been granted either absolute or interim ‘pre-arrest’ bails by the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench. A petition for quashing the FIR is also pending before the Kohima Bench.
