DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 29 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has expressed grief over the passing of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, lauding his significant contributions to the Indo-Naga peace process. In a statement issued on December 28, the Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP) of the NSCN (IM) described Dr. Singh as a statesman of exceptional vision and integrity who stood out in his approach to addressing the Naga political issue.

The NSCN (IM) highlighted Dr. Singh’s unwavering commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Indo-Naga conflict. During his tenure as Prime Minister, he demonstrated boldness and sincerity, engaging directly with Naga leaders and emphasizing the need for an “out-of-the-box” solution. The statement recalled his assurance during the sixth round of talks on December 7, 2004, where he stressed the importance of mutual understanding and collaborative efforts to achieve a solution acceptable to both parties.

“We are equally keen to work out a mutually acceptable honorable solution. We will be sincere in tackling the problem and explore every possible way to bring a solution,” Dr. Singh was quoted as saying. The NSCN (IM) also acknowledged his proactive measures, such as deputing three ministers to engage with the organization’s negotiating team and his personal interactions with Chief Negotiator Th. Muivah.

The statement underscored the legacy of Dr. Singh’s efforts, which continue to resonate with the Naga people. “In his demise, the Nagas have lost a great leader who always stood for a solution that is honorable and acceptable to both India and Nagalim,” the statement concluded, extending condolences to his family and close friends.
