KOHIMA, MARCH 26 (MExN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) President Apong Pongener today called for collective efforts to restore the party’s political prominence.
“The doors of NPF are always open. This party belongs to the Nagas, and together, we must work for its growth,” he stated while addressing the consultative meeting of the NPF Central Team with the Kohima division on March 25.
Pongener also expressed confidence in the Kohima division, terming it the strongest in Nagaland, according to a press release from the NPF. He emphasised the need for a fresh enrolment drive and urged members to “create waves of political revival.”
Reaffirming the NPF’s unique political identity, he asserted that it is the only regional party that “truly fights for the Nagas.”
While acknowledging that the party currently has only two members in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Pongener remained optimistic, stating that many leaders desire to return to the NPF, the release maintained.
Other senior party leaders and functionaries deliberated on strengthening the party’s base and reaffirmed its regional identity at the meeting, it added.
Among others, NPF Secretary General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon observed that although the party is in alliance with other political parties in the government, its core principles remain intact.
He, therefore, urged party workers to actively seek ways to strengthen the party’s foundation.
Kikon further described Kohima as the ‘nerve centre’ of the state and stated that party members in the division have a greater responsibility and encouraged division leaders to be more active and innovative in revitalising the party.
He also elaborated on the NPF’s decision to support the State Government, noting that while the party remains committed to the interests of the Naga people, it also seeks to ensure political stability.
The NPF’s resurgence must begin from Kohima, stressed Vice President (Administration) S Akho Leyri.
He also acknowledged that the party is at one of its lowest points but emphasised that the name ‘Naga’ embedded in the NPF reflects its deep-rooted connection with the people.
In this connection, he urged party workers to set aside personal differences, shed egos, and work together with a unified vision to rebuild the party’s strength.
