The Central Executive Council (CEC) of the Naga Peoples’ Front today endorsed the party president and leader of the NPF Legislature Party to workout feasibility with any people friendly political party(s) to forge alliance in the state for the coming elections.
Resolving this at the Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting of NPF at its Central office Hqs here, the CEC felt the necessity of amendment of existing NPF party constitution and recommend the party president to appoint Constitutional Amendment committee members.
In its resolution, the CEC lauded the four party MLAs for displaying matured political leadership acumen in safeguarding the image and aspiration of the Naga people “when other chose to betray the trust of the party and the electorates.
It reaffirmed the party’s earlier stand on the Naga Political Issue and urged the GoI and bring to an honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution at the earliest.
It appreciated Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for the inclusion of all the four NPF Legislators in the Core-Committee on the Naga Political issue and appointing the leader of NPF Legislature Party, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu as Co-Chairman of the UDA. “However, the house felt that the Party Leader deserves better position in UDA as agreed earlier to be equal partner in the decision making,” the resolution stated.
It also resolved to uphold the party under the leadership of party president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu as the leader of NPFLP.
Further, the House endorsed the party president to undertake restructuring and strengthening measures in the party working system at all levels.
In his presidential address, NPF President Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu said that the recent crisis has reduced the number of NPF MLAs to four. Stating that the four MLAs have already proved their leadership, he congratulated them for their firm stand and commitment on NPF party. “They are the NPF heroes of the day and I wish them success,” he said.
Regarding the building of the party, Shurhozelie said “We assure our leaders that we will not rest but work hard to improve and expand the size of our house with good materials since we have abundant good local materials readily available for the building, believing that God, the Almighty will listen to our prayers.”
Stating that 21 NPF MLAs had defected to NDPP on April 29, 2022, Shurhozelie said ,“It was not a surprise to us but I presume it may be more of a surprise to NDPP.”
Stating that some members from NPF were said to have been making continuous attempt to move away from NPF long time back without success, he said “I must admit that 21 friends leaving us abruptly led by some professionals is a setback for us at the moment but this set back will not remain long.”
This time, he said, after the defection of 21 NPF MLAs, their followers in some of the division declared their defection following their leaders.“Defection does not cover only MLAs but defection of party leaders are on equal footing. Many defections have been taking place and some more may follow. We have to take it as normal move as it happened in the past many times,” he said.
He said that those who want to go away with their masters, “we are sorry but we cannot stop them,” adding that NPF only want the dust to settle down early.“Now that they have gone on their own as expected, we will take it to be a good riddance,” Shurhozelie said.
NPF Legislature Party leader Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu said that as leaders, “We will face or come across a lot of problems.”
In this, he said the leaders must face those problems and solve or overcome it, “because when a leader does not address those problems, the problem becomes the leader and finally the leader becomes the problem.”Addressing problem is the most important duty of a leader, he added.
NPF Manipur assures support
Awangbow Newmai, president NPF Manipur State Unit also spoke at the meeting and assured the CEC members that the MSU is with them.
“We will not back out,” he said and assured to uphold the NPF central directives.
He also assured to extend all support to the party for the coming elections in Nagaland in 2023.
NPF central minority wing president Bishnu Bhattacharjee said that this is a time to unite and fight against negativity and spread the message of positivity.
The meeting was chaired by NPF secretary general Achumbemo Kikon.
