The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Dimapur Division Core Committee, along with several members from the party’s Central office today accused some individuals of ‘misusing’ the NPF nomenclature which they termed as illegal and questioned the motive behind their actions.
This is stated during a press conference with media persons at the NPF Office, Land Mark Colony, Dimapur on May 22.
The issue was in regards to a closed-door consultative meeting, organised on May 21 at Sakus Mission College, by several individuals, which the NPF have claimed are not affiliated with the party, to unanimously endorse sitting MLA, Moatoshi Longkumer during the upcoming state assembly elections and attended by about 202 individuals. This was explained by Bendang Aier, NPF President, Dimapur II A/C.
The crux of the issue was on the use of a banner that said ‘Consultative Meet of NPF Party Functionaries under Dimapur- II A/C’ during the meeting. “He (Moatoshi) has already left the party, so why are they still using the banner of the NPF?” questioned T Lotha, NPF President, Dimapur Division. He purported that yesterday’s meeting was just a gathering of mostly “self-held groups” and not an official gathering of the NPF. Lotha further stated that, “this is nothing short of a public stunt” and to further confuse the public as the officials who were the organisers of yesterday’s meeting had already tendered their resignation.
Lotha additionally mentioned that the use of the nomenclature of the NPF is “totally illegal and so will legally challenge their actions as per the law.” The NPF stressed they have no qualms or objections against the individuals holding a meeting however it should not be held under the use of the party’s name and symbol.
Lotha presumed that reasons why the individuals used the party’s name was out of sheer desperation as “they are not getting a platform after joining a new party (NDPP),” he said.
Moreover the NPF party workers had noted that any party meeting, convention or consultation would have actually been organised at the office premises and not in any other location. Therefore organising a meeting at SM College is a contradiction in and of itself, the party stressed.
It was also learnt that the party workers had known before-hand that the meeting was going to take place and so consequently warned them not to use the party’s nomenclature.
Accordingly, the NPF Dimapur Division have asked for a clarification from those individuals who had organised yesterday’s meeting at SM College and thereupon declared that legal action will be taken against them.
