Celebrating the enduring legacy of late Temjen Toy, who passed away in the January of 2021, a book titled ‘Not just another Bureaucrat: Temjen Toy as I knew him’ by Limawati Longchar was formally released today by the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, J Alam at Hotel Japfü, Kohima.

Recalling cherished memories and the adventures they undertook during more than 30 years of their friendship, Limawati Longchar expressed that “Temjen Toy lived his life to the fullest and passed away in a place of glory after contributing what he could for our people and our state.”

In the preface of the book, the author had also mentioned that, “it is a memoir of the times and events that we went through, especially of the turbulent period when we were both posted in Mokokchung and later, of the relatively tamer days in Kohima.”

“Temjen was not a saint or a superhuman being and this book is not an attempt to paint him as one. He had his weaknesses, seen and unseen but his humaneness and positive qualities overshadowed these human failings”, he highlighted.

Longchar also exuded hope that the hardcover book priced at Rs 800 will portray the genuineness of the man who worked harder than most people for a better state and society.

With the release of the book, he further expressed his desire for all his family, friends and well wishers to stop mourning but rather, remember him as somebody who gave his all for the society.

After giving it a thought about writing the book for two years, he said, the writing process took two weeks but the process of getting it proof-read, collection of photographs and getting it published took about five months.

Addressing the launch, Chief Secretary of Nagaland, J Alam, said, “we were all pained by the untimely demise of Temjen Toy” and describing the book as a kind of biography, he said, “the very fact that this book is actually written almost about 3 years after his demise is itself a testimony to the enduring legacy of our friend.”

He congratulated Limawati Longchar for touching upon the many dimensions of the personality of Temjen Toy in the book while reiterating that he was not just another bureaucrat.

Asangla Imsong, Joint Director of Information and Public Relations chaired the programme while Rev Sentisashi, Senior Pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Church said the prayer. Mention may be made here that the author, Limawati Longchar earlier served as the Director of Information and Public Relations.
