Chief Minister Rio formally inaugurates Nagaland’s 12th district on January 20
Noklak, January 20 (MExN): Three years after its creation on December 21, 2017, Noklak was formally inaugurated as the 12th district of Nagaland on January 20 by Chief Minister (CM) Neiphiu Rio.
The inaugural ceremony held at Public ground Noklak Hq coincided with the Khaozaosie- Hok-Ah festival of the Khiamniungan community.
Speaking at the ceremony, the CM extended best wishes to the people of Noklak and called it the ‘Frontier District’ of Nagaland, as it is located in the international boundary with Myanmar which connects to other east and south east countries, a DIPR report stated.
Rio also expressed hope that the district would set a good example and encouraged them to “have a competitive spirit and to co-operate with the government for all round development.”
He called upon the people of Noklak district to be self sufficient and encouraged the young people to start modern farming.
The CM also greeted the Khiamniungan community on the occasion of Khaozaosie-Hok-Ah, the festival of thanksgiving and hoped that it would usher in a prosperous year.
Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton advised the people of Noklak to be ‘peace loving’ and to be united with the neighboring districts. He stated that, though Noklak district is located in the far end of Nagaland, it is the gateway to the east.
Advisor, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Eco & Statistics and Evaluation, L Khumo lauded the PDA government for inaugurating Noklak district. He also extended appreciation to all who rendered help and effort to make Noklak district into reality and urged the people of Noklak to be peace loving citizens.
Terming it a ‘historic day’ for the people of Noklak, Advisor Prisons, Printing & Stationery H Haiying, added that, “The people of Noklak have been longing and cherishing for the district and today it has been fulfilled.”
State Chief Secretary, J Alam, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant and President, Khiamniungan Tribal Council M Thangou also spoke during the occasion.
Executive Secretary, Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association, P Hempao Lam dedicated the monolith during the inaugural ceremony and special numbers were presented by K Okie and the forlic band. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Noklak, Reny Wilfred welcomed the gathering and vote of thanks was delivered by Superintendent of Police Noklak, Dr Pritpal Kaur Batra.
The Vice President of India released a video on the profile of Noklak district and extended his best wishes to the new district, the DIPR report added.
Meanwhile in the Khaozsoasie Hok-Ah programme, Advisor, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, P Pongom delivered a speech on the significance of the festival.
Short speeches were delivered by former Minister P Longon, former Parliamentary Secretary S Heno, President ENDBU, R Muthsodang Sangtam, Former President, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, L Ngon and President KTC and Convenor Steering Committee M Thangou.
The programme was led by Executive Chairman KTC Pakhiu and benediction was pronounced by Pastor, Longdon Town Baptist Church, Noklak Rev B Chillia.
Khiamniungan cultural and traditional dances were displayed during the festival.
