This year’s High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination saw three outstanding students share the Top 2 position—Moasanen Pongener from Fern wood School, Kohima; Lokemi Achumi from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima; and Renbeni Odyuo from Patkai Christian Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima.

Among them, a visibly elated Renbeni Odyuo shared with The Morung Express that the news came as a surprise. “I wasn’t expecting to be in the top list,” she said, recalling the moment her mother informed her of the result.

The 16-year-old delivered an exceptional performance, securing 100 marks in both Social Sciences and Music, 98 in Science, 97 each in English and Mathematics, and 96 in Alternative English.

Odyuo aspires to become a neurosurgeon. She plans to take the next step towards her goal by enrolling at St Joseph University, Chümoukedima.

She credited her success first and foremost to God, stating, “Without Him, it couldn’t be possible.” She also acknowledged her parents, teachers, and friends for their continued support throughout her academic journey.

When asked about her preparation strategy, Odyuo admitted she didn’t follow a strict routine. On a regular day, she studied for two to three hours, which sometimes extended to five or six. During exam time, however, her study hours increased to nine or ten each day. “The key behind my success was consistency,” she mentioned.

Sharing a message with younger students, she said thatonedoesn’t really have to study the whole day. “But you need to be disciplined enough to study. You don’t have to compare yourself to others either. Learn to take care of your mental health as well.”

When not studying, Odyuo loves reading, cooking, and listening to calm music, hobbies which help her unwind and stay balanced, she added.
