NLA adopts 2 resolutions, passes 3 Bills

Correspondent KOHIMA, NOV 27 (NPN) : Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) adopted two resolutions – on Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, 2002 and Transplantation of Human Organ Act, 1994 and Transplantation of Human Organ Act (Amendment), 2011 – on the last day of the session on Friday.

While the resolution on SARFAESI Act, 2002 was moved by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, health minister S Pangnyu Phom moved the resolution on Transplantation of Human Organ Act, 1994 and Transplantation of Human Organ Act (Amendment), 2011.

Besides the two resolutions, the chief minister also moved for consideration three Bills– Nagaland Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Fourth amendment) Bill, 2021, Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2021 and Nagaland Lokayukta (Second Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Since there was no notice for amendments or discussions, speaker Sharingain Longkuker initiated the motion for adoption and the same unanimously passed through voice vote.

The house also passed the Supplementary Demand for regularization of excess expenditure from 2014-2015 to 2016-2017, through three bills Nagaland Appropriation Number 5, 6 and 7 Bills, 2021.

Earlier, the session began with speaker Sharingain Longkumer’s address under Rule 284, commemorating the day of adoption of the Constitution of India.

To commemorate the ‘Constitution Day’, the speaker and all members present, including officials, read out the Preamble and reiterated their commitment to the Preamble to the Constitution. Speaker read out a brief history on the process leading to the drafting and adoption of the Constitution, which came to effect on January 26, 1950 and laid the institution of the Republic of India.

Assembly session adjourned sine die

NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer adjourned the 9th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly sine die after completing all the list of business.

The speaker said the session was “fruitful” since all the listed transactions were completed successfully. He extended his appreciation to the members and other officials involved in the smooth functioning of the 9th session.
