It observed challenges of organ donation in India as; lack of awareness, cultural & religious belief, inadequate infrastructures, legal & ethical issues and public perception and myths.

It also emphasized active support and participation from government bodies in promoting organ donation, and also stressed on the need to establish and enforce regulations that streamline the organ donation and transplantation process.

Later, NIMSR director-cum-dean, Dr Soumya Chakraborty administered organs donation pledge during the programme.

It pledged that “I take a pledge to donate such of my organs and tissues as could be used after my death to give new lease of life to those in need. Keeping in view the shortage of organs and tissues for transplantation in our country, I also pledge that I will make all effort to inspire my family, friends and fellow citizens to donate organs after death.”
