NGBF appeals PM Modi to execute Naga Agreement before New Year

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 20 (MExN): The Nagaland GaonBura Federation (NGBF) has appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour the commitment given to the Federation on August 3, 2017 for a permanent, honourable and acceptable political solution to the Indo-Naga political problem. 

In a representation addressed to the Prime Minister, the NGBF reminded that it has been four years since the official conclusion of the political talks with all Naga groups.

It maintained that based on the assurance of the Prime Minister given to the Federation on August 3, 2017, all the Naga political groups came together under the umbrella of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) and its working Committee (WC) was invited for negotiations in September 2017. Following this, WC-NNPGs conducted two year formal talks with the Government of India (Gol) interlocutor RN Ravi, having first entered into an Agreed Position on the mechanism, process and nature of peace talks.

The Naga peace talks with NNPGs was therefore, in the official format called the Agreed Position, was between the GoI and the Constituent Federal Naga entities of under the banner WC-NNPGs, and was not on behalf of a single political entity or organization. 

This initiative had the fullest support, co-operation and solidarity extended by all Nagaland tribes, apex civil societies and the Churches. WC-NNPGs took all Nagas and even neighbouring communities into confidence. This exhibited and rekindled Naga traditional democratic in its purest form, the Federation stated.

The negotiations concluded on October 31, 2019, agreeing on whatsoever possible in the contemporary political situation, meticulously worked out in the shortest possible time, deliberating on all aspects of the Naga problem.

Coming to the present, the Federation said the Naga question has to be solved through vision oriented political process and believed that the time is ripe to act on the commitment to the NGBF on Naga solution. 

“This is your time and we, as representatives of Nagas at a grassroots level in towns and villages would urge your good self to ensure that the Naga Agreement is signed implemented in Nagaland at the earliest for an enduring peaceful future in the North-East,” it appealed. 

It stated that the Naga populace awaits the negotiated points to be implemented and to push among the frontline of the developed states of India by 2047.  As your astute leadership prepares to take major strides forward to achieve a goal of a developed India, all the gates have to be opened for the planned progressive growth, it said. 

While appealing the Prime Minister to respect and honour the words given to the elderly Naga customary guardians in the form of NGBF on August 3, 2017, it has urged the GoI to execute the Naga Agreement with the negotiators before the New Year of 2024.
