Neiphiu Rio inaugurates State Polytechnic, stadium at Aboi town

DIMAPUR, NOV 27 (NPN): Chief minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the State Polytechnic Institute and Multiutility-cum-Indoor Badminton Stadium at Aboi town in Mon district on Friday in the presence of Deputy chief minister Y Patton, higher & technical education and tribal affairs minister Temjen Imna Along, DUDA adviser N Bongkhao Konyak, DPDB chairman N Thongwang Konyak, adviser to chief minister Medo Yhokha and 47th Aboi MLA Eshak Hessum.

Speaking at a public function organised on the occasion at the town’s local ground, the chief minister announced that the academic programme of the polytechnic would commence from 2021-2022 session.

Observing that Naga society was very young in civilisation, he said priority was being given to backward areas and expressed his wish to see the people enjoy the fruit of development.

He also encouraged the people to plant and preserve indigenous trees as they were vanishing from “our land”, while urging government officials to be more dedicated to their duties and do multi-tasking in whatever way possible for the benefit of people.

In his speech Patton asserted that Rio was a champion of development as, for the first time in Nagaland, a chief minister and his cabinet colleagues held five inaugural functions on a single day in Mon district.



Speaking on the occasion, Along thanked the State departments and people of Aboi for their relentless efforts that made the State Polytechnic Institute and Multi Utility-cum-Indoor Badminton Stadium possible.

Manpon Konyak, who is also convener of Aboi District Demand Committee, read out a list of grievances faced by the people, including condition of health facilities in Aboi.

Short speeches were delivered by Tongwang, ENSF president and KU Mon. Sharing a brief history of the project, Bongkhao said the estimated cost of the Multiutility-cum-Indoor Badminton Stadium was Rs 80 lakh. Funded by DUDA through Border Area Development Programme and Under Development Areas programme, he said the project was started in 2015-16 and constructed by M/s Affluent Enterprises and completed in 2017-18.

Chaired by Mon deputy commissioner Thavaseelan K, the inaugural programme was held in compliance with the COVID-19 SOP issued by the State government.


While Rev T Wano, Missionary at Large, invoked God’s presence, KU advisor (Aboi unit) Maopong delivered the welcome address.

There was also an exhibition badminton match between Chief Minister & partner and Badminton Club Aboi. Cultural dance was performed on the occasion by Upper Range Women and KNSK, Aboi Town. This was stated in a DIPR release.
