DIMAPUR: Along with the rest of the country, various schools and colleges in the state observed “National Science Day” on the theme “integrated approach in science and technology for sustainable future”, on February 28. National Science Day is observed annually to commemorate the work of Indian physicist CV Raman in the field of light scattering.
Longleng: District administration and Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) Longleng conducted an inter-school science exhibition competition at VDB hall Longleng.
According to a DIPR report, panel of judges for the competition were chief functionary Yingle Mission Society, Dr. Lima Phom, graduate teacher, GHSS LLG, R. Radhakhrishnan and MO, PHC Yongnyah, Dr. Manan Phom.
Some of the subjects and models presented by students included “sewage treatment plant, soil erosion, assembling and working of robotic, wind turbine, kaleidoscope, etc”.
During the competition, first prize was bagged by Christian High School, second by Phom Lempong school while the third prize was bagged by Shamakok Mission School.
Winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes. Altogether, 25 girl students participated in the competition. Earlier, welcome address was delivered by WWO MSK, Phungla Phom, who also gave a brief note on the significance of the celebration. The programme was attended by Phom students conference executives, teachers and students from all the blocks.
Tuensang: Sao Chang College (SCC) Tuensang, observed National Science Day on the theme, “integrated approach in science and technology for a sustainable future”.
A press release from SCC informed that during the programme, competitions in three categories including model, poster and debate were conducted.
A brief programme was also held where assistant professor, department of Physics, Dipak Nath explained the history and significance of the day.
The programme was chaired by Takumbuba of B.A. VI semester, principal-in-charge Longtichang Tzudir delivered principal’s address and vote of thanks was delivered by assistant professor, department of Mathematics, Along Longchari.
BMS, Jotsoma: Baptist Mission School (BMS), Jotsoma in celebration of the National Science Day conducted a quiz competition on “science and technology”.
A press release from the school informed that during the programme, headmaster of the school, V. J. Thomas exhorted the students on the importance of the day and urged upon them to maintain scientific temperament throughout their lives.
Altogether, four teams comprising three members each participated in the quiz competition where science teacher, Neizo Ciesotsu was the quizmaster.
Noklak: As part of the “National Science Day”, a science exhibition, extempore competition and a lecture on science, evolution, genetics and physics for around 300 school students of five schools was conducted in Noklak under the motte, “#fighting drugs with education”.
