National Deworming Day campaign launched in parts of Nagaland

Kohima, February 11 (MExN): Office of Chief Medical, Kohima under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) held the National Deworming Day (NDD) programme at Government High School, Forest colony, Kohima on February 10. 

During the NDD programme, Dr Khrievilhou Nakhro, DPO (RMNCAH+N) said that children suffer from several harmful health issues because of worm infection such as Anemia, nutritional impairment, loss of appetite, weakness and anxiety, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea and blood in stool. 

He informed that on National Deworming Day, deworming tablets will be given free-of-cost at schools and anganwadi centres targeting children of 1-19 years of age. “Children should be de-wormed, even though some children do not fall sick,” he stated. 

Benefits of deworming children were also cited by DPO. He said that direct benefits of deworming controls anemia and improves nutritional uptake whereas indirect benefits of deworming helps improve immunity, concentration and capacity to learn, improve work potential and livelihood opportunity also help break the transmission cycle resulting in lesser worm infestation in the community. 

Students take deworming tablet the National Deworming Day programme at GMS Mopongsen, Merangkong, Mokokchung on February 10.

MO (RBSK) Dr Nikdirenla Lusang spoke on the importance of NDD to the students and demonstrated six steps hand washing at the school premises. 

The programme was chaired by DPM, Avikali Jakhalu with welcome note by Asst Headmistress Swedesunuo Zao. Vote of thanks pronounced by Dr Katila Longchar, MO (RBSK).

Wokha: National Deworming Day was launched in Wokha district during a programme organised by Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), Wokha at Government Middle School, Sector D, Forest Colony Wokha on February 10. 

Speaking during the launching programme, Dr Lirenthung Khuvung, Medical Officer, RBSK, emphasised on the importance of de-worming, sanitation, hand hygiene and Anemia Mukt Bharat. 

Dr Khuvung informed that worm infestation in children can affect the overall growth and development of a child. Taking the right dose of Albendazole tablets can prevent various diseases such as anemia and malnutrition in children, he added. He also encouraged the participants to keep their surrounding clean, wash food items with clean water and practice hand washing techniques. 

During the programme, the RBSK team administered de-worming tablets and iron folic acid tablets to the school students and Anemia screening was also conducted. 

Mokokchung: Mokokchung launched 1st round of District Level National Deworming Day at Government Middle School Mopongsen, Merangkong, Mokokchung on February 10. The programme will be carried out throughout Schools, anganwadi centres and Health Units of Mokokchung District.

During its launching programme, Dr Suimzenla, MO (Ayush) gave a health talk on the effects of parasitic worms to our health, the importance of hygiene and its treatment to the students and teachers present during the programme. She cited that the objective of the day is to deworm children and adolescents to reduce the prevalence of parasitic worms in the intestine.

Concluding the launching programme, RBSK team from the office of the Chief Medical Officer Mokokchung administered the required dose of Albendazole tablet to every children enrolled in the school.

The programme was conducted by RBSK team Mokokchung led by Dr Suimzenla, MO (Ayush) and Dr Arenkaba, MO (Ayush).
