Dimapur, January 12 (MExN): The three-day 9th general session of Western Sangtam Students’ Union (WSSU) is underway at Tsithrongse village under Dhansiripar Sub-Division from January 10 to 12.

H Tovihoto Ayemi, MLA & Advisor, Tribal Affairs and Election Department, Government of Nagaland, graced the inaugural session as special guest on Saturday morning. Speaking on the occasion, Tovihoto encouraged the students to be the activists to break barriers and to build bridges, and to be ambassadors of peace and unity among the people.

Stressing on the theme of the session ‘Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers’, Tovihoto called upon the young people to cultivate a culture of open dialogue and communication to discuss the elements of division that conflict progressive ideas and separate the people, adding that understanding and collaboration in respect and empathy is the only way to break barriers.

Tovihoto Ayemi presented with appreciation certificate during the inaugural session.

He also encouraged the students to focus on building platforms of connection and unity that would foster a sense of belongingness and create networks to support one another in the pursuit of dreams and aspirations.

Tovihoto pointed out students could play a proactive role to promote peace and unity, and create space where everyone feels valued and included. He said young people’s voice is strong and will be heard and therefore one must not be afraid or hesitate to speak out against anything that is destructive for the society.

Stating that the world belongs to the youth, he said they have a huge responsibility to educate and guide the society and to use education and knowledge as powerful tool for empowerment to influence transformation within the community and beyond. He was hopeful to witnessing the incredible contributions the younger generations would make towards the society in the years to come.

Further, he reminded the students that nothing comes easy, and there are no shortcuts to success. It is only through hard work, dedication, and sincerity that open doors success and opportunities. He added that one should not limit one’s aspirations based on what seems achievable today but to aim for the extraordinary, and work diligently towards targeted goals.

He also stressed on the importance of preserving one’s culture and tradition passed down to by ancestors; one’s true identity.
