Nagaland: World Health Day 2025 observed

Dimapur, April 8 (MExN): On the occasion of World Health Day on April 7, Fr CP Anto, Principal NEISSR and peace advocate, addressed a diverse gathering of students, educators and professionals on the theme ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.’

In his keynote address, Fr Anto emphasised the profound importance of maintaining balanced mental health in today’s fast-paced and often overwhelming world, stated a press release received here.

“Mental wellness is not merely the absence of illness,” he noted, “but the ability to understand, manage, and harmonize our emotional and psychological responses.” He stressed that balanced mental health is essential for living a productive, meaningful, and fulfilling life.

Fr Anto explained the roles of two major stress hormones—adrenaline and cortisol. While necessary for responding to threats or challenges, prolonged exposure to these hormones due to chronic stress can lead to burnout, anxiety, and health complications. Adrenaline prepares the body for action, increasing heart rate and focus, but constant overproduction weakens immunity. Cortisol, while essential in regulating metabolism and inflammation, can be harmful when persistently elevated.

To promote emotional well-being, Fr Anto introduced the concept of the four “happy hormones”: dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins. These naturally occurring chemicals boost motivation, mood, emotional connection, and pleasure. He encouraged the audience to engage in daily practices such as exercise, positive social interaction, mindfulness, and gratitude to nurture these hormones.

Immanuel College: Immanuel College, Dimapur under the initiative of the Department of Education, observed World Health Day with Dr Nepuni Athikho, DNB (Family Medicine) Consultant, Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine as the resource person.

The resource person, speaking on the theme, highlighted the four components of health: physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being and encouraged the gathering to give equal importance to all these aspects. Stressing the spiritual health, the speaker reminded everyone how wonderfully God created man, emphasising the need to value our health by choosing a healthy lifestyle. 

He stated that health starts at the healthy beginning and both physical and spiritual fitness is equally crucial. By pointing out the toll that bad habits such as alcohol consumption, tobacco use and smoking take on the body, he strongly encouraged the students to prioritize their health by developing healthy habits. In his concluding remarks, he urged every to live a full life and to complete it well.

Earlier the programme, was chaired by Abeni Mozhui, HoD, Education Department and the event began with the invocation delivered by Temjen Longkumer, Assistant Professor, Department of Education. The event concluded successfully with words of gratitude pronounced by Langtopongmei, Asst. Prof., Dept. of Education.

Zisaji Presidency College: Zisaji Presidency College Kiphire observed World Health Day at the College Auditorium on the theme ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.’ 

The programme was chaired by Munguli L Sangtam and Paul gave the invocation. The welcome address was given by Gagan Chandra Mishra, Program Officer, NSS, followed by Speech from Dr Dheni Thonger, District Epidemiologist, IDSP, CMO, Kiphire. 

The speaker enlightened the NSS and RRC Volunteers on maternal health, infant care, and indigenous food habits and encouraged the Volunteers to aware the neighborhood and the public through social campaign. 

Dr I Temjentoshi Ozukum, Nodal Officer, RRC, took the health pledge. A total of 70 volunteers participated during the observation and took the health pledge. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Thingrila T Sangtam, NSS Volunteer.
