Former MLA & Advisor, Government of Nagaland, Medo Yhokha has said that the way forward to a progressive society lies in the shared vision of the young and upcoming generation along with the guidance of the elders and leaders.
Speaking during the Platinum Jubilee Celebration of Makhuma Youth Organization (MYO) under Kigwema Village, Kohima today in the village, he expressed how it is crucial for us to look at a future that encompasses a shared vision of working together towards building an environment which is able to give back to the future generation by sustaining the natural endowments, investing on quality education or creating self reliant economic avenues starting now.
Yhokha called the attendance to ponder why jubilee and anniversaries are celebrated for its different implication, narrative and purpose.
Irrespective of the number of years, he said one significances lies in showing respect and honouring elders and pioneers behind such inception. “If we forget to remember and honour our luminaries then the essence of the jubilee will be lost,” the Speaker underscored.
He said during such Celebration, we should reminiscing and reflect on the past, look at our strength and weaknesses of the past and weigh and balances these points to move ahead. “Without reflecting on the past and learning from our mistakes, we cannot progress,” he pointed.
Yhokha said beyond a daylong celebration and merrymaking or recording it in a souvenir, he said we have to come up with a way forward. To leave it that way, the speaker said we would be considered hypocrites. Like the pioneers who must have had a vision for setting up such a Union, Yhokha said jubilee are to set vision, dreams and hopes of how we want our future to be.
The speaker meanwhile cautioned the people not boast too much about past glorious however, asked the Youth to think of how we can instead keep the legacies alive. “The 75 years, is inked in a souvenir, writing the fate of the next new pages depends of us,” he challenged.
He further added that it is not just the leaders of the day, but the challenge of all the young and old alike. “We have to start doing today, plant the seeds so that it will bear the fruit for posterity and sustenance,” Yhokha expressed. He called to bring changes in the society and said it is in the hands of the people who can become trendsetters and pathfinders in the field of religion, leadership, economy, education, entrepreneurship among other. The speaker also encouraged the people to work with broad mindset .
Earlier the programme was chaired by Neisalie Neihu and Vilakiezo Yano, Secretary, Mission Department, ACRCC and Khokhrie Neihu, Dikon Board Chairman, Kigwema Baptist Church invoked blessings for the programme. Greetings were delivered by Kigwema Youth Organization and Kigwema Village Council. Jubilee songs were presented by Makhuma Choir, Makhuma Women Society and Shürhovizo Kiso. The vote of thanks was delivered by Khevisa Chale.
