On the National Press Day, Kohima Press Club conferred the Impact Journalism Award 2022 to Vishü Rita Krocha in appreciation of her contribution towards ‘Rural Journalism.’
While conferring the award, the KPC recognised her contribution to the field as ‘exceptional’ and lauded her ‘distinct insights in highlighting grassroot level success stories to do with people based at agro-economics, social upliftment and entrepreneurship.’
Rita, who is also associated with The Morung Express thanked the KPC for “honouring the stories” that she believed in; stories that she “wrote with no grand ambitions but only with the hope that it would spark a little light somewhere and help make this world a better place.”
‘Rural Journalism’ for which she was awarded, also comes in tune with her career as a journalist, she observed, while recalling that her first story was about a ‘Youth Jail’ in a village maintained by the village youth.
“Every piece I have ever written has personally been very exciting and enriching for me, and more importantly, significant, because they carry the voices of the rural communities,” she shared. Rita has dedicated most of her life to storytelling through journalism since 2008.
She pointed out that she had never dreamt of an award that would recognise what she does. “I am deeply grateful to the Kohima Press Club for this recognition because it also means that these stories do matter.”
According to her, “Journalism is a thankless job and definitely don’t work to seek recognition for what we do.”
She said the KPC Impact Journalism Award is a great motivation for all of journalist in the field “to keep going and positively impact the society in whatever way possible.”
“What makes the award even more special is because it is home grown and comes from your own fraternity. They understand the practical difficulties, struggles and challenges of journalism having experienced it themselves firsthand. And so, I am beyond humbled and honoured with this special recognition,” Rita also expressed.
Rita has worked for various media organizations in the state and national platform and has several books authored and co-authored by her. She also owns the Penthrill Publication house.
