Nagaland urged to use master plan for upcoming infra projects

Special Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Sumita Dawra today urged the Nagaland Government to use National Master Plan (NMP)/State Master Plan (SMP) for all upcoming infrastructure projects.

She also focused improve data mapping and authenticity of data on the data layers mapped on SMP, focus on development of economic centres in the North East through appropriate infrastructure and logistics development and other related issues. 

Dawra was addressing the first review meeting on PM Gati Shakti (logistics) with the State Government officials led by Nagaland’s Chief Secretary J Alam on June 21 at Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima. 

The primary objective of the meeting was promoting wider adoption of PM Gati Shakti for holistic planning, bring more vigor and build synergy with all the stakeholders.

The Special Secretary also stressed on the need to identify critical infrastructure gaps and ensure they are taken up for connectivity projects, leverage local remote sensing agencies/space agencies for development of geo-tagged data, under guidance of BISAG-N, Ahmedabad and sensitising and penetration of PMGS adoption at district level for effective area development planning, to improve both Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living of citizens.

She also called for adoption of PM Gati Shakti with a holistic approach and demonstrations of best practices by Ministries and States.

Over 30 State Government officials comprising of the members from Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) and Network Planning Group (NPG) of State attended the meeting.

The meeting was also addressed by Nagaland’s Chief Secretary J Alam.

What is PM Gati Shakti?

PM Gati Shakti is a transformative approach launched on October 13, 2021 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for planning & building next generation Infrastructure in the country and promoting multimodal logistics connectivity to improve both Ease of Living as well as Ease of Doing Business.

Since the launch of PM Gati Shakti, Nagaland has created requisite framework in terms of Institutional Arrangements/Policy Formulation for alignment with PM Gati Shakti framework.

EGoS, NPG, and Technical Support Unit (TSU) have been constituted in the State comprising various departments like Power, Roads, Urban Development, Tourism, Transport etc.

On June 13, 2023 out of 30 mandatory data layers, twenty-two (total/partial) have been integrated in the SMP platform. 
Data layers such has Forest, Eco-sensitive zones, Village habitations, Economic areas, Roads, etc have been integrated.

As part of Special Assistance Scheme for the States under Part-II for the FY 2022-23, an amount of Rs 28.43 crore was disbursed for five projects : Modern Aggregation Centre at Longnak, Mokokchung; Modern Aggregation Centre at Changtongya, Mokokchung; Integrated Warehouse and Distribution Centre, Meluri, Phek; PM Gati Shakti Data Centre, Kohima; and Modern Aggregation Centre, Pfutsero, Phek District.

Five projects submitted as part of State Annual Action Plan have been mapped on the SMP.

Development of Customised tools important for economic and social infrastructure planning and for decision making is under discussion with BISAG-N.

To bring a holistic focus on logistics at state level, Nagaland State Logistics Policy is under final draft stage, it was informed.
