Freezing temperatures gripped several parts of India including the north east even as cold flu continued to spread amidst concerns that infections were also caused by the Omicron virus.
People across Nagaland also experienced dip in temperature where it was recorded at 17oC in Dimapur, 8oC in Kohima and 6oC in Pfutsero during Sunday.
According to many people, the dip in temperature in Dimapur this year (2022) was perhaps among the coldest in recent memory. There was light rains during the past few days and the mist added to the cold.
Most people stayed indoors during the past day or two in addition to taking preventive measures against the covid virus.
Use of electric heaters at homes and bonfires on the roads, were scenes being witnessed at least in Dimapur.
Dzükou and its surrounding areas were covered under snow seen on Saturday. It was also reported that Saramati, Nagaland’s highest peak was draped in thick snow on Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted light to moderate rain and dense fog conditions in many states till January 27.
Northeast India is predicted to receive widespread light to moderate rainfall during January 23-25. Thunderstorm, lightning and hailstorm are also very likely over Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland during next 48 hours. IMD has also predicted cold day to severe cold day conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
