Three former members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland State Unit, have decided to resign from active membership of the party and to join the Janata Dal United (JDU) party, citing lack of confidence in the present leadership and failure to fulfil their earlier election manifesto, which was announced during a press conference at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on November 16.

These included district unit presidents, Tingsangai John Pamei (Peren), Yangthungo Kikon (Wokha) and Seyiekhrielie Nagi (Kohima). As per their public statement, they have resigned after losing faith in the leadership of the BJP Nagaland state unit, particularly in their failure to fulfil their commitment of ‘Election for Solution,’ which was promised to the citizens during the 2018 Nagaland state general election.

“The BJP is not sincere in finding an honourable solution to the vexed Naga political issue but is only interested in clinging to power,” they alleged. As such, they have decided to join the JDU under the leadership of Nitesh Kumar and Lalan Singh, National President.

According to NSN Senchumo Lotha, President, JUD Nagaland, “they have resigned with a hope that the JDU would bring change to the state of Nagaland.” He added that the party is committed to work for a peaceful solution to the vexed Naga political issue. Kumar had also mentioned during his visit to Dimapur on October 11, that “My party will support an honourable solution to the Naga problem and I will speak on this issue wherever I go to draw support from other political parties.”

“The JDU is the first ever political party from Nagaland to stage a dharna in Delhi for an solution,” he mentioned. In regard to next year’s general election, Kikon said that the party is working towards formulating a strategy which will bring better results than the last election.
