Correspondent KOHIMA, NOV 29 (NPN): Nagaland police on Monday launched a mobile application– “Call Your Cop” which will now allow citizens to get in touch with police personnel on duty in just a click away.

Launching the mobile app at PHQ conference hall here on Monday, director general of police (DGP) T John Longkumer hoped that the app would enable all citizens in distress to get in touch with the police. He claimed that the app was developed in such a way that all required firewalls were factored in, making it difficult to hack. Observing that mobile internet has become too pervasive and often used for criminal activities by miscreants, especially to harass women, he said it was only prudent to develop an app that would help all citizens.

Longkumer said the initiative was taken in line with the modernisation of the police force.

He mentioned that the app was also part of Community Outreach Programme Scheme (COPS) as the police endeavoured to be closer to the citizens.

The DGP hoped that the launch of the app would mark a new beginning for interactive communication between the police and citizens of the State. He mentioned that the app was initiated under the aegis of IGP (CID) and team with the help of Excellogics Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd.

He said, following the launch of 112 emergency response system, there were a lot of queries, but call volume subsequently began to decline. He encouraged all citizens, including those in remote areas, to download the app or call the helpline number if they were facing any problem.

Longkumer further announced that Nagaland Police would launch tourist police control room helpline number 112 with separate wireless channel at Kisama on Tuesday. He asked the tourist police personnel to treat guests in a courteous manner and ensure a successful and crime-free hosting of the upcoming Hornbill Festival.

He said the police would also launch closed user group phone for all officers, adding that the phones would be distributed to all officers.

Giving a presentation of the app on the occasion, Excellogics Tech Solutions Pvt Ltd official claimed that the app was simple and robust having contact numbers of all Nagaland Police officers and many other features.

The app provides a quick dialer provision for citizens to call police during emergencies or making other enquiries. The app can be downloaded from Google Playstore.
